Shared Interest
Shared Interest provides finance for fair trade. It has about 8500 members who lend money to the Society at
very modest rates of interest (currently nil). The Society uses that capital to provide fair trade producers and
buyers with much needed credit and loans on fair terms. It is the world’s leading fair trade finance
organisation, providing finance for over 10% of fair trade sales around the world.

If you would like to find out more about the organisation visit the Shared Interest website (link above) or send
your contact details to the Felixstowe Fairtrade Forum Secretary who will pass them on to the local
representative for Shared Interest (email link for Felixstowe on the right).

The Fair Trade Shop, Ipswich
The Fair Trade Shop (Ipswich) Ltd is a company limited by guarantee and was set up 25 years ago. For 20
years we had a shop in Orwell Place which over the years saw a decreasing footfall and although we had a
number of loyal and committed customers most of the time it was very quiet.  In September 2015 we moved
to a much busier street, Upper Brook Street, just a few doors away from Sainsburys.  We are greatly
enjoying being in this location with a higher profile for fair trade in the town.

We sell a range of fairly-traded and environmentally-friendly goods, including food and beverages, musical
instruments, jewellery, children's wooden toys, craft, paper goods, bags and scarves and home textiles. The
shop has a part-time paid manager who is also a Director; the rest of the Directors and staff are volunteers
and our aim is to increase the sales of goods which have been produced without exploitation and in schemes
which improve the lives of workers and their communities.
