Revised Schedule for Visit of Patrick Kaberia to Suffolk, September 2024
This is the schedule for the visit as of today’s date, 17 September. There may be some additions and modifications which will be posted on the SAFT website members’ page, access code Fairtrade99.
Events which are open to the public are marked with an asterisk.
Friday 20 Sept
1.36pm or 2.06pm Patrick arrives at Ipswich station to be met by Elaine Coltham from the Ipswich group.
5.30pm Elaine will bring Patrick across to Felixstowe for an informal reception, starting at 6.30 pm. For local Fairtrade activists and friends, by invitation.
Patrick will spend the night with hosts Alan & Sulsie Muchal.
Saturday 21 Sept
*8.30am photo opportunity at Felixstowe Co-op.
9am – 10am Breakfast reception at the United Reformed Church in Felixstowe. For town councillors, church representatives and local supporters, by invitation.
*10am – 12noon Family Fun Day at Felixstowe Library. All welcome, no need to book. 12.30pm – 2.30pm
Lunch at Woodbridge library followed by short tour of Woodbridge. For local supporters and activists, by invitation.
3pm Visit to the Ipswich Fairtrade Shop in Upper Brook St to meet staff and volunteers. Followed by tea at Ipswich Town Hall with the Deputy Mayor.
6pm – 8pm Civic reception at St Peters Church on the Waterfront in College St, Ipswich. It will be hosted by the Mayor of Ipswich, Cllr Elango Elavlakan. For councillors and local Fairtrade supporters. All on the SAFT circulation list are welcome. 8pm return to Felixstowe to spend the night with Alan & Sulsie Muchal.
Sunday 22 Sept
10am Meet with Bury St Edmunds host, Richard Stainer, at St Edmundsbury Cathedral
*10.30am – 11.30am Morning service at the cathedral. Patrick and Richard will talk about Fairtrade at the service.
*11.30am Opportunity to meet Patrick over coffee following the service.
12.30pm Visit to Bishops Farm. Opportunity to discuss regenerative farming, soil improvement and the impact of climate change.
3pm Afternoon tea reception. Details to be confirmed. Overnight with Richard & Christine Stainer.
Monday 23 Sept
9.30am Patrick arrives in Beccles to meet host Rose Norgate. Visit to local shops & cafes selling Fairtrade goods.
*11am – 12.45pm Reception at Beccles Library. All welcome, no need to book. (During the morning pupils from the Sir John Leman School will be filming for the Suffolk Schools video “Growing up with Fairtrade”).
2pm – 3pm Visit to Worlingham Primary School
*4.30pm – 6pm Event at Lowestoft Library.
Overnight with Rose Norgate.
Tuesday 24 Sept
10.30 Patrick to speak to Beccles National Women’s Register. By invitation.
Afternoon. Return to London.
